| The Parthenon | It is the unique masterpiece of the world. You will realize it yourself the moment you will stand in front of it and learn a little of its history and the secrets of its construction. The beauty, harmony and grace of this monument make a really lasting impression on everyone who sees it. Today admission to the Parthenon is prohibited due to the restoration work that has been taking place there since 1983. This will not prevent you from admiring this unique temple dedicated to the goddess Athena and built of white marble from Penteli. Under the Parthenon of the Classical Times there are remains of the monumental Ur-Parthenon, an archaic temple dated in late 6th century B.C. The architects of the classical temple, which was constructed and decorated between 447 and 432 B.C. during the Golden Age of Perikles, were Iktinos and kallicrates. The Parthenon housed the golden-ivory statue of Athena, work of the famous sculptor Pheidias. This statue was the final destination of the Great Panathenaea procession, depicted on the frieze of the temple. | ![]() The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, is situated on the southern slopes of the Acropolis, in the heart of Athens, access could not be easier if you hire a car from Lotus car rental |
| Benaki Museum Cultural Centre | The Benaki Museum ranks among the great benefactions which have enriched the material assets of the Greek state. At the same time, it is the oldest museum in Greece, which functions as a Foundation under Private Law. Through its extensive collections covering several different cultural fields, as well as its more general range of activities which serve more than one social need, the Benaki Museum is perhaps the sole instance of a complex structure within the wider network of museum foundations in Greece. |

| Temple of Poseidon | Cape Sounion (50 km south, coastal drive) The Temple of Poseidon is located at Cape Sounion, approximately 1 hour from central Athens. The Temple of Poseidon is one of the best-preserved classic temples in all of Greece. It is located at an elevated and historically strategic level overlooking the beautiful blue Aegean Sea. Even if you are not a fanatic of architecture, you will still marvel at the magnificent 360-degree views from the top of the hill. You can see the beachfront below along with little boats racing by. Dare to peer over the edges of the rocks, but do not lean too far or you will plunge into the sea hundreds of feet below! The Temple has Doric columns but no roof. Built in 440BC, it was restored in the 19th Century. Surrounding it are a few scattered ruins. There is a full-service restaurant with a semi-outside seating area. Parking is also available at the site. There are two routes; one follows the spectacular Apollo Coast of Attica while another goes inland and takes a few minutes longer. We suggest you the coastal drive, as you will pass magnificent scenery such as local beaches, mountains, twisting roads, and fishing inlets. |
